Franklin D Bennett

Franklin D Bennett, 81, of Gas City, passed away at 9:12 am on Wednesday, February 22, 2023. He was born in Gas City, Indiana, on Thursday, January 29, 1942, to Frank and Florence (Miller) Bennett.  He was raised by his foster parents, Earl and Wanda Montgomery.

Franklin graduated from Mississinewa High School.  He served in the United States Army.  Franklin achieved the rank of private and was honorably discharged.

Following his military service, He worked as a truck driver all his life and in recent years with Jet Express Trucking.  He used to build and race cars.  He enjoyed camping all weekend in Warsaw or Kokomo when he raced cars.  He enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson with his daughter, Lynette.  He spent a lot of his mornings at Kammy’s Kafe where he would go for coffee.  He was a “busy body” and always had something to do.  Most of all he just enjoyed spending his time with his daughter, Lynette.  She was his whole world.  

Franklin is survived by his daughter, Lynette (Fredrick) Fuller of Albion; step-son, Anthony “Tony” Gee; step-daughters, Lisa Stanley,Traci  Runge, Robbin Akers, Linda Wilson, and Peggy Arnold; grandsons, Austin Centers and Zachary Centers; and foster sister, June (Russell) Felton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Florence (Miller) Bennett; foster parents, Earl and Wanda Montgomery; son, Frankie Miller; step-son, Robert “Bob” Gee; foster sister, Betty Reynolds; 17 brothers and sisters; and great-grandson, Ty Matthew McClenan – Centers.

At Franklin’s request, there will be no public visitation or funeral service.  

Arrangements are entrusted to Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral and Cremation Service, North Chapel, 400 E. Main St., Gas City, IN.
