Eva M. Summers, 84, of Marion, met her Lord and Savior in her home at 1:50 am on Tuesday, September 13, 2022. She was born on June 23, 1938, and was the daughter of William C. and Agnes (Peer) Miller.
While home on furlough at her aunt’s house, Eva met Donald H. Summers. After knowing each other for nine days, they eloped. Their love was a lasting love, and they were married for 65 years this past August. They were a great example of love and devotion to one another. She adored her husband and would always say, “Isn’t he handsome?”
Eva was a loving and dedicated wife, mom, and granny! She loved her family with unconditional love and spoiled her grands! She was an awesome housewife and made the best “No Bake Cookies”, peanut butter cake, and banana cake. She sewed as her girls were growing up and made all of their dresses alike, especially for family pictures. She made many Quillos! Also, as her girls were growing up, they had no TV. So, she would make “bodies” and her girls would watch them breathe through the oven window. These “bodies” consisted of pastry dough with a jelly filling, and they were so good. She always made sure the one toy they had was the Ping Pong paddle. When the rubber band broke, the paddle went into the kitchen windowsill for later use (which she hardly ever used). She was the girls’ storyteller and their best friend!
She froze all the time! Ha! It could be 90-degree weather and she had to have a sweater. She also had many “boyfriends” in the family. She could make you smile and laugh when you didn’t want to.
Eva loved her King, Jesus! She read her Bible, sang, and prayed all the time. She taught her family about Jesus, how to love, and how to pray! They never saw her upset and angry at anyone. She always had a smile and was a mom to many. She would make you feel that you were her favorite. Love poured out of her. To know Eva was to love her.
Eva served in Sunday school for over 50 years. She was also a teacher in a private school for 3-4 years. Before working at Walmart, she was employed at Vogel’s Donuts. Eva also loved to read books!
In her last days, she wanted her girls to sing to her “He Washed My Eyes with Tears” and “Peace Peace”. She asked, “How is Jesus going to take me out of here?” and her family replied, “He is going to open up His arms and you will walk into them, cuddle up, and go to sleep.” Her answer was “Ok” with a huge smile.
Eva “Mom” was ready to go Home to be with Jesus. She loved to worship, raising her hands as high as she could! Mom, we will carry your legacy on for loving the Lord! We will all miss you!
She is survived by her loving husband, Donald Summers; daughters: Sandy (Bill) Tomlinson of Riegelwood, NC, Pam (Kevin Lindley) Summers of Kokomo, and Lois (Rev. Clarence) Hand of Marion; grandchildren: Shawn (Angie), Tarrah (Dan), Jevon (Josh), Aaron (Dusty), Chad (Cindy), Britt, and Mark (Crystal); great-grandchildren: Samantha (Connor), Korbin, Nicolas, Tabitha, Kaytlin, Noah, Brayden, Addalyn, Daisy, Bruklyn, Jenalyn, and Huntley; brothers, George (late Nancy) Miller of Marion and Dewey (June) Miller of Bluffton; and sister, Alberta (Ray) Tigue of St. Charles, MO.
Eva was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Romonia Huddleston, Marie Moss, and Laura Hueston.
The family will receive visitors from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Saturday, September 17, 2022, at Faith Apostolic Church, 902 W. 16th St., Marion, IN.
Immediately following the time of visitation, a funeral service to celebrate Eva’s life will begin at 1:00 pm with Rev. Clarence Hand will be officiating. Interment will take place at 11:00 am on Monday, September 19, 2022, at Marion National Cemetery.
