Eugene Victor Wert

Eugene Victor Wert, 95, Marion, went to be with the Lord at 12:20 a.m. on Friday, February 8, 2019, at University Nursing Center in Upland.  Born in Marion on October 7, 1923, he was the son of the late Clark and Dorothy (Johnson) Wert.

After Eugene graduated from Marion High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served his country overseas in the Philippines and New Guinea during WWI from 1943-1946.  Following his military service, he married his loving bride, Rhea Lostutter, on September 25, 1948, and they had one child, Danny.

Eugene was a manager and draftsman at RCA for 37 years until his retirement.  While employed there, he participated on the company bowling league.  Eugene also enjoyed gardening, fishing, and traveling.  He attended Calvary Assembly of God.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Rhea; daughter-in-law, Linda Wert, Jonesboro; and grandson, Chris Wert, Peru.

He was preceded in death by his son, Danny Wert; two brothers, Martin and Vernon Wert; and two sisters, Virginia Lewis and Dorothy Gronendyke.

The family will receive visitors from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Monday, February 11, 2019, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St., Gas City, IN.

Immediately following the time of visitation, Eugene’s funeral service will begin at 11:30 a.m. with Pastor Mick Simpkins officiating.  Burial will take place at Marion National Cemetery.
