Ethel Pearl Denney

Ethel Pearl Denney, 94, Marion, passed away into the arms of Jesus at 9:00 am on Wednesday, January 4, 2023, at Marion Health. She was reunited with the love of her life, Elbert, who preceded her in death in 1999.

Ethel “Pearl” was born in Hamilton, Ohio, on Thursday, November 15, 1928, the daughter of Samuel and Sadie Mae (Sorrell) Rogers.  She was raised in Owingsville, Kentucky, prior to moving to Marion, Indiana, where she married her husband, William “Elbert” Denney on November 16, 1946.

Pearl was a homemaker, never having to work outside the home, which gave her time for her favorite pastime–rummaging.  She was an avid “rummage goer”, looking for the ultimate bargains only to be resold in her well-known yard sales.  She had been a faithful member of First Pentecostal Church in Marion since 1950.  Upon giving her heart to Jesus, she never looked back or wavered in her love for God.  She faithfully read her Bible through every year until her dimming vision prevented her.  She loved listening to gospel and country music.  Family was always a top priority.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her daughter, Iva Jewel (Jim) Peters of Marion; grandchildren, Sheri (Kevin) Jarrett of Greenfield and Michael Peters of Marion; great-grandchildren, Kaila (Brian McCord) of Haughton, LA, Amory Smith (Kaleo) of Bremerton, WA, and Derek Cook of FL; great-great-grandchildren, Austin, Aubrey, Taylor, Ayden, and Orion; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William E. Denney; her parents; and siblings, Lillian, Edgar Jr., Sam Jr., Noni Alice, Mary Hazel, Henry Earl, and Beulah.

The family will receive visitors from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm on Sunday, January 8, 2023, at First Pentecostal Church, 1116 S. Pennsylvania St., Marion, IN.

Immediately following the time of visitation, a service to celebrate Pearl’s life will begin at 2:00 pm with Pastor Darrin Williams officiating.

Burial will take place at 2:00 pm on Monday, January 9, 2023, at Grant Memorial Park, 1606 W. 26th St., Marion, IN.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.
