Emma Bell Dossey, 91, Marion, passed away at 4:57 p.m. on Friday, January 11, 2019, at Wesleyan Health Care and Rehab in Marion. She loved the Lord and was ready to go home to Heaven. She was born in Newton, MS, on September 16, 1927, to the late Rev. J.D. Jordan and Mary E. Garner. She was married to Lloyd Dossey, who preceded her in death in June of 2008.
Emma was employed as a housekeeper for over 50 years and she worked for Jim and Janet Gartland, as well as Tom and Kathleen Hunt. She was more of a family member than an employee. She deeply loved her nieces and nephews and was a fierce “Protector” of them. They were like her own children and would talk if it had to do with her nieces and nephews. She also liked “being the Boss”. She enjoyed working word search puzzles, watching soap operas on TV, playing cards and Bingo, and especially having family gatherings.
She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Arthur (Lula) Jones, Marion, Wiley (Marsha) Jones, Chino Hills, CA, Willie M. (Fred) Jones, Sun City, AZ, Corean Walker, Peoria, AZ, James L. (Karen) Jones, Long Beach, CA, Olla Porter, Marion, Johnny G. (Kathy) Jones, Studio City, CA, Edward (LaVeta) Jones, Indianapolis, Samuel Jones, Marion, John C. (Maxie) Hardy, Newton, MS, and Wilma Jones, Indianapolis; brother, Granville (Gladys) Jordan, Jackson, MS; sister, Bobby Moore, Muskegon, MI; and a host of cousins, friends, great-nieces/nephews, great-great-nieces/nephews, and great-great-great-nieces/nephews.
She was also preceded in death by siblings, Gladys Lindsey, Millie M. Jones, and Cindy Hardy; step-son, Duane Duncan; nephew, Robert E. Jones; and niece, Betty J. Jones.
The family will receive visitors from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, January 25, 2019, at Integrity Funeral Care, 2901 S. Washington St., Marion, IN.
Immediately following the time of visitation, Emma’s funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. with Rev. Wiley Jones officiating. Burial will take place at Grant Memorial Park.
