Douglas Eugene “Doug” Stamate

Douglas Eugene “Doug” Stamate, 73, North Manchester, passed away at his home on March 10, 2024. He was born on July 26, 1950, in Wabash, Indiana, to Maverne “Gene” and Helen Irene (Young) Stamate.
After graduating from Manchester High School in 1968, Doug worked at Singer Controls from 1972 to 1975. After leaving Singer Controls, Doug proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1975 until he retired in 1995. He then moved back to North Manchester and began working at Heckman Bindery, where he remained until entering retirement in 2012. He was a member of American Legion Post 286, North Manchester, where he served as finance officer for twelve years. He dearly loved his time with the Legion and honored countless veterans while serving as part of the honor guard. While Doug had a quiet, soft-spoken demeanor, those lucky enough to know him well appreciated his witty sense of humor and intelligence. He was a history buff and enjoyed sharing his knowledge with others.
The loving memory of Doug Stamate will be forever cherished by his brothers-in-law, Michael Clark and Kenny Graybill; nieces and nephews, Brittany (Todd) Hamm, Tina Graybill, Charles (Rubye) Graybill, Jo Graybill, Jonathan (Bernadette) Clark, Tim Clark, Amy (Adrian) Ford, and Elizabeth (Jacob) Good; and his friends at the American Legion Post 286. Doug was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Stephen and William Stamate; sisters, Donna Clark and Sandra Graybill; and niece, Danielle Stamate.
A graveside service will be held Thursday, March 21, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. at Oaklawn Cemetery, 600 Beckley Street, North Manchester, with Pastor J.P. Freeman officiating.
