Doris Louise Smith

Doris Louise Smith, 86, beloved of God, went home to Jesus at 2:50 a.m. on Monday, January 7, 2019, at Timbercrest Senior Living Community in North Manchester.

Doris was born in Huff, KY, on June 30, 1932, to William Elbert and Cora Gladys (Basham) Bashem.  On December 31, 1950, she married Kyle Carter Smith and together they had two daughters, Kyletta and Nanci.  Doris received her B.A. and M.A. degrees in Education from Ball State University and, throughout her career, taught in Sweetser, Swayzee, Greentown, and Anderson.

Doris was a member of Gideon International Auxiliary, Methodist Women’s Society, and Indiana Teacher’s Association.  She was not only actively involved with the women’s Bible study at her church but also an active prayer warrior for others.

She enjoyed reading, walking, traveling, playing cards and Dominoes, roller skating, and swimming.  She loved being with her family, and she was an extraordinary and generous giver, whether it was financial or personal possessions.  Most of all, though, Doris loved the Lord, and she served her church and the Lord faithfully.  Matthew 25:23, “Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!”

She is survived by her daughters, Kyletta (Michael) Marburger, Peru, and Nanci (Robert) Rosinski, Huntington; siblings, Glenna (Ben) Franchi, CA, Kenny Bashem, MO, and Lynn (Tom) Terry, Bedford; brother-in-law, Ray Fuller, Anderson; grandchildren, Melissa Marburger, Mindy (Ray Drew) Marburger, Kyle Marburger, Brian Rosinski, and Greg (Sarah) Rosinski; great-grandchildren, Nicholas Magee, Morgan (Phil) Wimmer, Lydia Marburger, Alexis Marburger, Gracelyn Marburger, Asher Rosinski, and Ava Rosinski; and great-great-grandchildren, Keagan Magee, Xander Magee, and Noah Wimmer.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Kyle Smith (who passed away on December 28, 2016); sisters, Hazel (Vince) Sabela, Martha Crouthamel, Wanda Hall, Jeanette Bashem, and Rosemary Fuller; and brothers, Roy Bashem, Bill Bashem, Freddie Bashem, Carl Bashem, and Howard Bashem.

Family and friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, January 11, 2019, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Rybolt Chapel, 314 N. Washington St., Swayzee, IN.  Additional visitation will be one hour prior to the service, from 10 to 11 a.m..

Doris’ funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 12, 2019, at the funeral home with Rev. Nanci Rosinski and Rev. Robert Land officiating.  Burial will take place at Thrailkill Cemetery.
