Doris June Ihnen, 88, Akron, Indiana, passed away at her home on November 22, 2022. The daughter of Ross and Nellie (Culler) Silvius, Doris was born in Dixon, Illinois, on June 24, 1934.
After graduating from Morris High School in Morris, Illinois, in 1952, Doris attended Manchester College. On August 24, 1954, she married James L. Ihnen. The two were wed for forty-six years before James passed away on January 20, 2001. During their time together, Doris and James were blessed with four children, Steve, James Lyn, Janet, and Debra. In 1958 Doris and James felt the unimaginable heartbreak of losing their child, James Lyn.
Doris was a woman who was not afraid to work. She was employed at Heckman Bindery in North Manchester for many years and later at Dalton Foundry in Warsaw until her retirement. She loved spending time outside, especially tending to her garden and mowing her yard. Doris found joy and beauty in her flowers which always made her smile. Her smile and laugh will be missed by all who knew her.
The loving memory of Doris June Ihnen will be forever cherished by her son, Steve Ihnen, Akron; daughters, Janet Martin, Fort Wayne and Debra (Jerry) Hartzler, Akron; seven grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Don Werner, Mount Morris, Illinois; and sister-in-law, Esther Silvius, Ashton, Illinois. Doris was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James Ihnen; son, James Lyn Ihnen; brothers, Dwight C. Silvius and Wayne Silvius; sister, Wilma Ruth Werner; sister-in-law, Doris Silvius; and son-in-law, Edward Allen Martin.
Those wanting to attend graveside services at South Pleasant Cemetery, 5064 West 1400 North, North Manchester, Indiana are welcome at 12:00 noon on November 28, 2022. Family and friends may call Monday, November 28, 2022 from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at McKee Mortuary, 1401 State Road 114 West, North Manchester. Funeral services will begin at the conclusion of calling with Pastor Bryan Korrey officiating. Burial will be at South Pleasant Cemetery, 5064 West 1400 North, North Manchester, Indiana 46982. On December 3, 2022 that will be a time of memory at South Pleasant Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. for those unable to attend the funeral service.
