Donald F. (Guzzy) Brooks, 84, of Peru passed away at 11:55am on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at his residence.
He was born in Peru on January 2, 1934 to Alvie and Lucy (Lardino) Brooks. He married Relna Hudson in 1954, and she preceded him in death. Guzzy retired as a cable splicer from Indiana Bell after 30 years of service. He was also a member of the Mexico First Brethren Church. Guzzy was a loving man and spent his winters in Florida for 34 years. He loved playing golf, bacci ball, bingo, and swimming. He also loved hunting with his brothers and sons.
He is survived by his children Nino Brooks, Derek Brooks, and Shawn (wife Kim) Brooks, all of Peru. Also surviving are grandchildren Jarett Phillipy, Velvet Tucker, Stephanie Brooks, Lee Brooks, Dalea Zimpelman, Derek “Duke” Brooks, Cody Brooks, and Cory Brooks; and also 15 great-grandchildren. Also, siblings Terry Brooks, David Brooks, Tex Brooks, Rick Brooks, Virginia Massey, Betty Brown, and Vicky Deardorff.
Guzzy was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a son Reggie Brooks, siblings Glen Brooks, Bill Brooks, Cecil Brooks, Jimmy Brooks, and Mary Waso, and an infant sister Helen Brooks.
A memorial service will be held from 3pm – 5pm on Sunday, July 15, 2018 at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home, 105 West Third Street, Peru, Indiana, with Pastor Lorie Keck and Pastor Mark Elliott officiating.
