Donald E. Barker

Donald E. Barker, 92, of Gas City, passed away at 12:52 am on Friday, February 19, 2021, at Heritage Pointe in Warren. He was born in Grant County on May 21, 1928, to Basil and Mary (Adamson) Barker. On November 26, 1948, he married Marjorie L. McClure, and she preceded him in death on January 15, 2018.

Donald was a 1946 graduate of Gas City High School and attended Purdue University for Electrical Engineering. He served in the United States Army during World War II. Donald was awarded the World War II Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal. He achieved the rank of Private First Class and was honorably discharged. He was able to attend the Honor Flight in April of 2017.

Following his military service, Donald worked as a Compliance Manager for 33 years with Kroger Dairy, retiring in 1992. He had spent his entire career in the dairy industry and had owned his own receiving plant, County Line Cheese.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Gas City, now ReNewed Life Church. He was a member of the Masons for over 50 years, a member of the Shriners, and a member of the VFW in Gas City. He served as Chaplain, Secretary and Treasurer of the Gas City Fire Dept. for 33 years. He and his wife enjoyed going to Calico Square Dancing and had attended many dances in their time together. He liked golfing and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his children, Steven J. (Susan) Barker, Gas City, Bradley E. (Cynthia) Barker, Ohio, and Julie (Jerry) Rogers, Indiana; grandchildren, Erin J. (Jim, Jr.) Richards, Joanna L. (Michael) Schnepp, Breane L. (Mark) Walter, Adam B. (Erin) Barker, Nathaniel J. (Caitlin) Barker, Lauren C. (Nicholas) Lemoine, Derek C. (Amanda) Rogers, and Shelley R. Rogers; great-grandchildren, Kaleb, Lucas, Meghan, Grady, Henry, Knox, Avanelle, Emelyn, Ella, Peri, Dane, Jorie, Cecelia, Roen, Sophia, and Sydney; great-great-grandsons, Karson and Levi; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Basil H Barker; mother, Mary E Barker; loving wife, Marjorie L Barker; daughter, Shelly Barker; and two sisters, Anna Louise Curtis and Delores Bonewitz.

The family will receive visitors from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm on Thursday, February 25, 2021, at ReNewed Life Church (Formerly First United Methodist Church), 213 E. South A St., Gas City, IN.

Immediately following the time of visitation, a Funeral Service to celebrate Donald’s life will begin at 2:00 pm with Pastor Dustin Jones officiating. The service will be livestreamed and details can be found at renewed.church/churchonline. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery.
