Dinah Kay Crockham

Dinah Kay Crockham, 72, Marion, passed away at 6:46 am on Friday, March 15, 2024, in her home. She was born in Cotton Plant, Arkansas, on Friday, June 29, 1951, to James Alvon and Wanzetta (White) Barnett.  On July 10, 1971, she married James Crockham, who survives.  

Dinah was a 1969 graduate of Marion High School and enjoyed being a part of the Marion Booster Block.  After graduation, she attended Kelley School of Business of Indianapolis, after which she came back to Marion and was an inspector with Foster-Forbes until her retirement.  She was a member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist, served in the Women’s Ministry, on the Usher Board, and on the Food/Hospitality Committee.  She also enjoyed participating and fellowshipping with Become Ministries.

Dinah loved sports and enjoyed watching sporting events with her husband.  During her working years, she enjoyed participating on a bowling team.  She enjoyed watching the TV shows Andy Griffith, The Price Is Right, Days of Our Lives, and various game shows.  Dinah was also very active on social media and loved to “stalk” her grandkids.  

Dinah will be remembered as very outspoken, the “captain of the family”, and someone who liked to be “in the know”.  She loved her kids and grandkids and would do anything for her family.  She always found what was good in people and was a giver who made the holidays fun.  In addition, she was a wonderful cook.

In addition to her husband, James, survivors include her daughters, Yolanda (Charles) Nance of Indianapolis and Janell Crockham of Marion; grandchildren, Kayla (Jairus) Smith of Indianapolis, Jamitreus (Hailey Braasch) Crockham of Indianapolis, Kaliyah Crockham of Cincinnati, OH, and Jaydon Crockham of Marion; great-grandchildren, Jairus Smith, Jr., Harlem Crockham, Jericho Crockham, Journey Smith, and a great-grandchild on the way; siblings, Patricia (James) Foote, Jackie Onugha, Wanda Sue McKinney, Michael (Arletha) Smith, and Gary Smith; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Derek Lamont Barnett; and siblings, James Barnett, Jr., Gregory Smith, Chris Smith, Anthony Barnett, and Grace Smith.

The family will receive visitors from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Friday, March 22, 2024, at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, 1204 W. 14th St., Marion, IN.

Immediately following the time of visitation, a service to celebrate Dinah’s life will begin at 1:00 pm with Pastor C.L. Adams officiating.  Burial will take place at Grant Memorial Park.
