David Lee Burke, 70, Marion, passed away surrounded by his wife and daughter by his side at 12:21 pm on Thursday, July 14, 2022, at Wesleyan Health Care & Rehabilitation Center in Marion. He was born in Marion, Indiana, on Wednesday, March 19, 1952, to Emil and Bonita (Shaw) Burke. On March 10, 1973, he married Vickie L. Landers, and she survives.
David graduated from Marion High School and attended Ivy Tech, where he received his associate degree. He was in Environmental Management for 26 years with VA Northern Indiana Health Care System, retiring in 2002.
David enjoyed several hobbies, and he also loved fishing, camping, and bowling. Up through his 40s, he enjoyed weightlifting. More than anything, though, David loved all of his family, his girls, his son-in-law “The Boy”, and his dog, Sissy.
Survivors include his wife, Vickie L. Burke of Marion; daughter, Sue Ann (Bryan) Starr of Marion; granddaughters, Jordan Ann Burke, Taylor Marie (Aaron Minier) Cromas, and Dakota “Kota” Lynn (Ben) Wolfe; brother, Paul J. Burke; sister, Diane Richardson; uncle, Myron (Patty) Shaw; sisters-in-law, Roezona Lacy and Judy Landers; several nephews, nieces, and cousins; and close friend, Stephan Lewis.
He was preceded in death by his father, Emil I. Burke, Jr.; mother, Bonita J. Burke; sister, Jane Ann Jones; grandmother, Ollie J. Shaw; and sister-in-law, Liana Atrim.
The family will receive visitors from 9:30 am to 11:30 am on Thursday, July 21, 2022, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.
Immediately following the time of visitation, a service to celebrate David’s life will begin at 11:30 am with Pastor Gary Bingham and Bill Sparks officiating. Burial will take place at Marion National Cemetery.
