Daniel “Danny” Howard Myers Sr.

With sad hearts, but with fond memories we would like to announce the passing of Daniel “Danny” Howard Myers Sr., 67 of Peru, IN.  Danny passed away on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, at Blair Ridge Health Campus with his beloved and faithful wife Beth, by his side.

Danny was born September 3, 1956, in Peru, Indiana to Elvin Earl Myers and Dorothy Pearl (Owens) Myers.  In his younger years, he spent most of his time playing sports with his adored brothers, Phillip (Allyson) Myers, Denver, IN and Alan (Debbie) Myers, Peru, IN.  They loved all sports, but all three boys spent hours honing their love of baseball.  A fond memory for all was a picture of the three boys in their baseball uniforms, where Danny towered over the younger two.  Danny was always their “big” brother literally and figuratively.  He watched over them and protected them whenever they needed him.  In the mix as well was their sister Bobbi (Dave) Charters, West Lafayette, IN.

As a young man, Danny spent a short time proudly serving his country in the United States Marine Corps. He worked various jobs throughout his life, but spent most of his years working at the Kokomo Chrysler Transmission Plant.  He spent his last few working years doing something he loved, driving a semi and seeing the country.

On January 14, 1977 Danny married Elizabeth “Beth” Suzanne Marks.  They shared 47 years of marriage and together they raised four children, Kenneth Marks, Peru, IN; Nicole (Gary) Myers, Peru, IN; Daniel H. Myers II (fiancee Kim Rubow), Denver, IN, and Tiffany (Brett) Alexander, Sheridan, IN.  Danny had 17 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren, with one more on the way.  He was a devoted grandfather and always made sure to make the little league games, the football games, the soccer games, or ballet recitals.  He never missed a chance to dive off the high dive with his grandkids and he never hesitated, when asked to drive across the country to deliver a bike, when one of his grandkids moved away without it.

Danny loved playing soft-ball and was known for his home runs.  His kids spent many summer nights at a softball field with him, where he would indulge them in a home run ball to turn-in for a “freezie pop”.  Another love was bowling and through the years he bowled in various leagues, for which he proudly displayed his trophy and pin of his perfect “300” game.  He loved the Colts and he loved his Cubs.

Danny never met a stranger and was a friend to everyone.  He loved to joke and tease with almost anyone he met.  He was loving and kind hearted and was a “give you the shirt off his back” kind of guy.  The nursing staff at Blair Ridge may finally get a reprieve, but we know they will miss him.

In addition to his loving parents, Danny was preceded in death by his beloved Uncle Melvin Merl Myers and his baby sister.

Danny leaves behind his wife and children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, his brothers and sister, his mother-in-law Freida Marks, father-in-law Keith (Phyllis) Marks, several brothers and sisters-in-law, several nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.  We will all love and miss him.

A Celebration of Danny’s Life will be held on March 2, 2024 at the Fraternal Order of Eagles, 56 N. Grant St., Peru, IN 46970 from 1:00pm-4:00pm.
