“I’ve got one more story, and then, I’ve got to go…”
Dale E. Spencer, 91, passed away Wednesday evening, June 6, 2018, at Heritage Pointe, Warren, with family by his side. He was born on April 16, 1927, in Monroe Township, the son of the late D. Estel and Margaret (Green) Spencer. He graduated from Jefferson Township High School in 1945.
Dale married Marilyn J. Jones on November 24, 1949. Together they shared 61 years before she preceded him in death on June 5, 2011.
Mr. Spencer was a lifelong resident of Monroe Township and a well-respected area farmer. He enjoyed running the farm and Spencer Farms Orchard with his family. He will be especially remembered for not being afraid to share his opinion and for his pride in never taking government subsidies for the farm.
Survivors include his children: Daniel (Cheryl) Spencer, Upland; Jim (Lynette) Spencer, Upland; Jason (Cindy) Spencer, Upland; Beth (Jeff) Sewell, Covington, KY; and Lisa (Ron) Altum, Upland; a sister, Helen L. Jones, Upland; a sister-in-law, Opal Jones, Upland; 15 grandchildren: Sara (Shawn) Russell; Christina (Brian) Day; Doug, Sam, Ben (Lyndsey), and Zach Spencer; Trevor Richey, Blayne and Audrey Altum; Gabrielle and Joshua Sewell; Kevin (Kami), Neal (Cassie), Clint (Ryan), and Rachael Fenstermaker; 5 great-grandchildren: Ellis Russell; Anthony, Grant, and Mason Day; Emmalee Spencer, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law, Warren and Mary Ellen Spencer, and brothers-in-law, Robert S. Jones and Jess D. Jones.
Visitation will be held from 3-6 pm, Monday, June 18, 2018, at Center Chapel United Methodist Church, 8733 E. 200 S., Marion, Indiana, 46953. Funeral Service will follow at 6:00 pm at the church with Pastor Mark Sanders officiating. Burial will be in Atkinson Cemetery, Upland.
