Constance J. “Connie” Newton

Constance J. “Connie” Newton, age 94, of Marion passed away on Wednesday, November 16, 2022 at Colonial Oaks Health and Rehabilitation Center in Marion.

Connie was born on December 5, 1927, in Pekin, Illinois, the daughter of the late Wesley Cook and Hazel (Chamberlain) McQuown. 

Connie married Owen Newton on June 27, 1949, and he preceded her in death on March 5, 1983. She graduated from St. Mary’s School of Nursing in 1948 as part of the Cadet Nursing Corp.   She was a registered nurse at Marion General Hospital for many years.   Connie was very involved in Planned Parenthood; her Neighborhood Association; and the Women of the Moose.  She enjoyed sewing and gardening. 

Connie will be sadly missed by all of her family and her dog, Duke.  She was also a champion of women’s rights and raised all of her daughters to be independent.  As one of her ex son-in-laws complained, “Your Mom ruined all you girls by making all of you independent!”

Connie is survived by a son, Clyde Newton; three daughters, Claudia (Rodney) Faulk, Noreen (Don) Shearman, and Lee Beth Newton (Jerry); two sisters, Dorla Wilder and Sherry Mills ; a daughter-in-law, Marcia Newton; and grandchildren, Damian Titus, Allison Newton, Carin Petterson, Sonia Hodge, Haley Kuehn-Mullen, Cliff Kuehn and Zachary Brooksher.

She was also preceded in death by a son, Wesley Newton; a daughter, Denise Kuehn; a brother, Darrell Cook; and a sister, Donna Lower.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 19, 2022 at Raven-Choate Funeral Home, 1202 W. Kem Road, Marion, Indiana.  Funeral Services will begin at Noon.

Burial will follow funeral services in Gardens of Memory Cemetery, Marion (Huntington County), Indiana.
