Clifford “Cliff” Mowery

Clifford “Cliff” Mowery, 77, Marion, IN, went to be with the Lord at 7:13 p.m. on Sunday, December 23, 2018, at IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.  He was born in Bicknell, IN, on August 14, 1941, to the late Vernal and Beulah (Page) Mowery.  On November 27, 1959, he married the love of his life, Carolyn Davidson, who survives.

Mr. Mowery began his career as a Professional Firefighter with the Marion Fire Department on October 1, 1970.  His ranks included Private, Assistant Mechanic, Chauffeur, Lieutenant on the Rescue Squad, and Battalion Chief.  He ended his career on October 1, 1990, as the Assistant Fire Chief.  While on the Fire Department, Cliff worked part-time as the Crew Foreman for Oradat Builders.  After his retirement from the Fire Department, he continued to work full-time for Oradat Builders until 2013.

Cliff was a devoted community member.  He assisted his wife, Carolyn, who was the Grant County Clerk at the time, by building voting booths in the Grant County Election Office or working with the Traveling Election Board.  He was a follower of Christ and faithfully attended Grace Community Church where he learned to love the people and the pastors.    He loved listening to gospel music and attending Cowboy Church.   He was a valued member of the 9th Street Gang Car Club and attended many cars shows where he won awards.  Although he was a dedicated community member and friend to many, his love and commitment to his family was first and foremost.

His memory will forever be cherished by his wife of 59 years, Carolyn; son, Rod Mowery, Marion, IN; daughters, Teri (Dean) Pyle, Huntington, IN, and Tamara (Neal) Gore, Indianapolis, IN; grandchildren, Scott (Rachel) Mowery, Rockledge, FL, Nick (Amanda) Mowery, Muncie, IN, Ryan (Kaci) Mowery, Muncie, IN, Adam (Kelliemarie) Pyle, Fort Wayne, IN, Amanda (Jim) Koschmann, Farmington, MN, Allie (Tyler) Rosenfeld, Huntington, IN, Christopher, Jonathan and Emile Gore, Indianapolis, IN; great-grandchildren, Garrett, Liam Truitt and Declan Mowery,  Lexi Slaven, Claire, Addie and Julie Pyle, Lydia, Zachary and Holly Koschmann, and Quinn and Dean Rosenfeld; sister, Wanda Brown, Hartsville, IN; and brothers, Ron (Carol) Mowery, Marion, IN, and David (Chris) Mowery, Carmel, IN.

Family and friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, December 27, 2018, at Grace Community Church, 1810 E. Bradford Pike, Marion, IN.

A funeral service to celebrate Cliff’s life will take place at the church at 10 a.m. on Friday, December 28, 2018.  Rev. Dr. Tom Mansbarger will be officiating with burial following at Gardens of Memory.
