Clarence “Mutt” Allen

Clarence “Mutt” Allen, 95, Gas City, passed away at 2:10 a.m. on Friday, August 24, 2018, at University Nursing Center in Upland.  He was born in Hueysville, Kentucky, on February 7, 1923, to the late Luther and Helen (Patton) Allen.

Mutt attended Garritt High School in Kentucky and then enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corp, serving during World War II.  He was a member of the local honor guard for 30 years, DAV, Post 95 American Legion, and a lifetime member of the VFW.  He attended First Christian Church in Gas City and served the Gas City community for 40 years as a barber in his own shop, Mutt’s Barber Shop.  He enjoyed traveling out West, watching NASCAR, and had built several homes in the Gas City area.

He is survived by his niece, Adrianna (Kenny) Day, Gas City; nephew, Mark Holt, Florida; best friends, Paul (Doris) Scott, Fairmount, Barb Distler, Marion, and Jenny Holt, Gas City; several great-nieces and great-nephews; and many friends at McDonald’s.

Also preceding him in death were two sisters, Naomi Holt and Mabel Rahr.

Visitation is from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. with Mutt’s funeral service beginning at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 29, 2018, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St., Gas City, IN.  Pastor David Shephard, Charlie Hall, and Ron Forsythe will be officiating with burial following at Marion National Cemetery.
