Clarence “Jay” Jones

Clarence “Jay” Jones, 83, Gas City, passed away at IU Ball Memorial on Wednesday, August 8, 2018.  Jay was born in Jonesboro on November 29, 1934, to Clarence and Orpha (Duncan) Jones.  On January 3, 1983, he married Minnie Lewis, and she survives.

Jay was an Air Force veteran, and he worked at Glass Container until its closing.  He also did concrete work on the side.  He enjoyed puzzles and gambling, which was a bit more fun when watching sports!  He especially enjoyed spending time with his family, friends, and pet dog, Twyla.

He is survived by his wife, Minnie; daughters, Rhonda K. (Shelley Humfleet) Jones, Jonesboro, Deborah (Mike) Voght, Huntington, Pam (Jacob) Williams, Marion, and Angela (Dell) Jones, Gas City; step-children, Glori (Sam) Henning, Gas City, and Brenda (Fred) Toor, Saint Cloud, Florida; 7 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, 6 step-great-grandchildren; sisters, Coleen Kreager, Cromwell, and Darlene Cornett, Sweetser; brother, James Jones, Gas City; and several nieces and nephews.

Also preceding him in death was son, Rodney J. Jones, and siblings, Jerry Jones, Larry Jones, and Lottie Kendall.

Visitation is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with Jay’s funeral service beginning at 1 p.m. on Monday, August 13, 2018, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St., Gas City, IN.  Rev. Dr. Tom Mansbarger will be officiating with burial following at Riverside Cemetery.
