Clara Virginia Bales, 100, of Montpelier, IN, passed away at 2:55 AM on Friday, September 28, 2018 at Colonial Oaks Health & Rehabilitation Center in Marion, IN. She was born on Wednesday, September 04, 1918, in Wells County, IN. She married Leo Lloyd Bales on Tuesday, September 07, 1937 in Poneto, IN; he passed away on February 17, 1979. Clara attended Chester Center High School. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Montpelier for many years. She was a former bookkeeper at the Hoosier Grain Elevator and retired in 1982 after 24 years of service at Leas Feed Co., Montpelier. Clara was a member of the Alethia Chapter #206 Order of the Eastern Star, and the Business & Professional Women’s Club.
Clara is survived by many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her: Father – Daniel Peter Schmidt, Mother – Lillie (Devore) Schmidt, Husband – Leo Lloyd Bales, Sister – Helen Matson, Sister – Jessie Schmidt, Brother – Gene Schmidt, Brother – Harry Schmidt, Brother – Frank Schmidt, Sister – Gladys Stapp, Sister – Daisy Shady and Brother – Russell Schmidt.
Family and friends may gather to share and remember at Walker & Glancy Funeral Home 109 W Windsor St Montpelier on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
A service to celebrate Clara’s life will be at Walker & Glancy Funeral Home at 1:00 PM on Thursday, October 4, 2018 with Pastor Jeremy Cowin officiating; viewing will also be held one hour before the service. Interment will follow in the Black Cemetery in Muncie.
