She was born Jan. 20, 1949, in Huntington to Doris and F. Dale Smitley. She graduated from Huntington High School in 1967. She retired from United Airlines after a lifelong career as a flight attendant, which gave her the opportunity to fly around the world. She enjoyed gardening and being outside with her flowers. She also enjoyed to crotchet. Most of all, she loved her grandsons.
Cheryl is survived by a son, Chris (Kristina) Collins of Westfield; siblings Russell (Sabine) Smitley of St. Augustine, Fla., Jan (Jerry) Williams of Huntington, Cindy (Nick) Neal of Andrews, and Misty (Brian) Murray of Huntington; two grandsons, John and Aidan Collins; an uncle, James (Barb) Bailey of Fort Wayne; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Shirley Barnhardt, and an aunt, Melba Rentschler.
Calling hours are from 3 – 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 31, 2018 at Bailey Love Mortuary, 35 West Park Drive, Huntington, Indiana. A private family service will immediately follow visitation. Entombment will be in Gardens of Memory in Huntington County.
