Charlie A. Jennings

Charlie A. Jennings, age 94, Marion, passed away at 4:47 a.m. on Monday, December 3, 2018, at Marion General Hospital.  He was born in Huntington on August 16, 1924, to the late Miles and Minnie (Hall) Jennings.  On June 7, 1947, he married his loving wife, Betty Bird, and she preceded him in death in 2006.

Charlie graduated from Banquo High School and enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he served during World War II.   He was a member of the American Legion and, on October 31, 2016, was privileged and honored to have taken the Honor Flight for Vets.  Since 1960, Charlie was the owner of J&W Electronics wholesale TV/radio.  He traveled to Europe with his business, which received many awards.

Although Charlie loved IU and Marion Giants basketball, it was golfing that truly was his passion.  He lived and breathed golf and had taken many trips with his buddies to Myrtle Beach.  Over a 40-year period, Charlie had made many holes in one, with his last one being at the age of 91.  He volunteered at Arbor Trace Golf Course and was a member of the National Hole in One Association.

He will be missed by his daughter, Janet (Brad) Steusloff, Marion; granddaughter, Jamie (Andy) Bowman, Marion; great-grandchildren, Zachary (Alissa) Lautzenheiser, Patrick (Tiffany Smithley) Yeakle, and Rhyan Yeakle; great-great-grandchildren, Isaiah Hawkins, Makinley Lautzenheiser, and RhyLynn Yeakle; brothers, Morris (Pat) Jennings and Larry Jennings; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Delona Bragg, and two sisters, Opal Clements and Marcella Christen.

The family will receive visitors from 10 a.m. to 12 noon with Charlie’s funeral service beginning at 12 noon on Saturday, December 8, 2018, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.  Pastor Mick Simpkins will be officiating.  Cremation will follow the service.
