Charles Ray Daniel

Charles Ray Daniel, 84, of rural Wabash, Indiana, died at 1:50 pm, Friday, October 13, 2023, at his neighbor’s home in Wabash.  He was born on June 5, 1939, in Boons Camp, Kentucky, to Lafe and Mary Sue (Dutton) Daniel.

Charles married Emma L. Fields in Wabash on June 5, 1964; she died March 23, 2018. He worked at and retired from United Tech/Dana in Andrews, Indiana. Charles was a member of the Wabash Free Will Baptist Church on Erie Street. He enjoyed cutting and trimming trees, bluegrass music, cooking, especially cornbread, and loved his family.   

He is survived by four children, Brenda Penix of Wabash, Garnett Smith of Huntington, Indiana, Tammy (Jerry) Wade and Ricky Daniel, both of Wabash; 10 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; 6 great great grandchildren; and sisters and brothers, Callie (Dean) Johnson of Paintsville, Kentucky, Johnny (Judy) Daniel of Hagar Hill, Kentucky, Matilda Hughes of Xenia, Ohio, Kathleen (Jimmy) Allen of Lexington, Kentucky, and Paul (Janet) Daniel of Servia, Indiana.  He was also preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Marlene Watson; five siblings, Eugene Daniel, Clifford Daniel, Joshua Daniel, Kenny Daniel, and Virginia Slone; and his grandson, Michael Smith.

Funeral services will be 10:30 am Thursday, October 19, 2023, at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, Wabash, with Pastor Bill Crank officiating. Burial will be in Friends Cemetery, Wabash.  Friends may call 3-7 pm Wednesday at the funeral home.

Preferred memorial is Wabash Free Will Baptist Church.
