Charles “Chuck” L. Jarrell

Charles “Chuck” L. Jarrell, 93, Gas City, passed away at 2:25 am on Monday, April 15, 2024, at University Nursing Center in Upland. He was born in Wheeling, West Virginia, on Monday, March 16, 1931, to Benjamin and Mildred (Little) Jarrell. On February 23, 1970, he married Shirley A. (Huston) Dailey.  

Chuck graduated in 1949 from Warwood High School in Wheeling, WV. He then attended and graduated from the Technical School for NCR.

Chuck worked as a Field Engineer for 41 years with National Cash Register from 1951-1992. He attended the Jonesboro Friends Church. He previously volunteered with CASA of Grant County, Meals on Wheels, reading to the visually impaired, Grant Co. Literacy Programming. He enjoyed woodworking, antique cars, performing magic shows and repairing clocks.  Chuck had lots of interests including reading, researching projects he was going to accomplish and even made prototypes before building things including the church pulpit at Jonesboro Friends Church. He restored a 1928 Model A Ford and a 1931 Essex to their original era of production. He had an interest in guns, traveling and hiking and was a self-taught watch maker. He loved trivia and westerns. He attracted a wide range of friends that always congregated in his garage.

Survivors include his wife; sons, Charles L. (Kathy) Jarrell Jr. of Indianapolis, Stephen (Teresa) Jarrell of Marion; daughters, Diana (John) Burke of Chandler, AZ, Kimberly (John) Ellis of Greentown, Wendy (Randy) Brookshire of Gas City, Kelly (Toby) Huey of Gas City; grandchildren, Amy (Jared) Pinkus, Samantha Jarrell, Ryan (Isabella) Jarrell, Spencer (Hanna) Jarrell, Zachary Ellis, Matthew (Kelly) Ellis, Tori (Caleb Buck) Huey, Jacob Ehmer, Patrick Murray and Regan (Craig) Engelhardt; great-grandchildren, Maddie, Cristian, Simara, Joseph, Isaiah, Hannah, and one on the way; brother, Thomas R. (the late Jeanette) Jarrell of Glen Ellyn, IL; and sister-in-law, Cynthia (the late Jerry) Ludlow of Gas City.

He was preceded in death by father, Benjamin A. Jarrell; mother, Mildred E. Jarrell; great-grandson, Benjamin Jarrell; and in-laws, Richard and Frances Huston.

The family will receive visitors from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Thursday, April 18, 2024 as well as, one hour prior to the service on Friday from 12:00 noon to 1:00 pm at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St, Gas City, IN.

A Funeral Service to celebrate Chuck’s’ life will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, April 19, 2024, at the Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, Storey Chapel. Rich Wollan will be officiating with burial following at Grant Memorial Park.
