Charles “Charlie” W. Spicer

Charles “Charlie” W. Spicer, 78, Sweetser, passed away at 6:50 a.m. on Tuesday, October 9, 2018, at Rolling Meadows Health Care Center in LaFontaine.  He was born in Marion on September 3, 1940, to the late Raymond and Christine (Stidd) Spicer.  On April 11, 1966, he married his loving wife, Cheryl Ellis, and she preceded him in death in 2000.

Charlie was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and received his high school diploma while serving in the military.  He enjoyed his work as an electrician with GM Fisher Body until his retirement in 2008.  He also enjoyed reading about history and working crosswords.  Charlie especially loved his family, as well as spending time with his best friends at the Green Olive.  He will be remembered for his very giving heart and a man who liked to share his wise sayings with others.  His most common phrase was “I’m old, ugly, and have a bad disposition.”

He is survived by his daughter, Anna (Tony) Clark, Indianapolis; twins, Brent Spicer, Kokomo, and Brenda White, Sweetser; grandchildren, Kimberly (Patrick) Byerly, Greenfield, Amanda Caldwell, Indianapolis, Joshua Alkire, Indianapolis, Jessica Miles, Noblesville, Nolan White, Sweetser, Olivia (Garrett) Maxey, Fort Branch, Benjamin White, Marion, and Zachary Spicer, Texas; 2 great-grandchildren; sisters, Donna Coons and Pam (Dennis) Caudell; sister-in-law, Teresa (Denny) Blevins; and several friends.

In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by his sister, Lynn Drook; brother, Steve Spicer; and brother-in-law, Richard Coons.

The family will receive visitors from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, October 19, 2018, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.

Services for Charlie will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 20, 2018, at the funeral home.  Additional visitation will be one hour prior to the service, from 12 noon to 1 p.m..  Pastor David Steinke will be officiating.
