Charlene Davis, 77, Gas City, passed away at 9:26 pm on Saturday, October 28, 2023, in her home. She was born in Booneville, Mississippi, on Friday, December 7, 1945, to Charles and Katie (Free) McCarter. She was married to Ronald Dean Davis, and he preceded her in death.
Charlene attended Fairmount High School and was a waitress for many years. She enjoyed going on motorcycle rides, dancing, fishing, and traveling. She also went on many camping trips over the years. Charlene was an outgoing woman who loved being around people, especially her family.
Survivors include her children, Toni Poe-Hounsel of Kilgore, TX, Charlie (Clarissa) Poe, Jr., of Ormond Beach, FL, and Greg (Tammy) Poe of Gas City; grandchildren, Hope M. Poe, Greg (Alex) Poe, Jr., Heather Paige Hounsel, and Kashena Steele; five great-grandchildren plus one on the way; sisters, Betty West and Barbara Helpling; brother, Roy (Debbie) McCarter; and several nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Tracy Lee Ross; and brothers, Jimmy Free and Harvey McCarter.
The family will receive visitors from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Thursday, November 2, 2023, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St., Gas City, IN.
Immediately following the time of visitation, a service to celebrate Charlene’s life will begin at 1:00 pm with Pastor Mick Simpkins officiating. Burial will take place at Park Cemetery.
