Carol May Boyer Satterthwaite, 91, Andrews, Indiana, went to Heaven at 3:48 am on Thursday, December 24, 2020, at Parkview Randallia Hospice in Fort Wayne, Indiana. She was born in Marion, Indiana, on September 15, 1929, to Wilber and Marjorie (Giffin) Boyer. Following the passing of her mother, she was raised and loved by her step-mother, Ermadell (Eaton) Boyer. She was married to her loving husband of 71 years, Robert U. Satterthwaite, who preceded her in death.
Carol graduated from Marion High School. She also took courses at St. Mary of the Woods College. Her favorite subjects in school were Spanish, shorthand, and all subjects that had to do with business. This led to a meaningful vocation for her as a personal secretary where company management depended on her greatly.
She enjoyed riding and caring for her horses and her other treasured pets over the years. She excelled at cooking, canning, and baking pies and cookies. She lovingly tended to her rose bushes and helped in the garden. You could find her dancing, singing, and playing the piano, which she learned to do later in life. In her spare time, she was reading mystery novels, getting her hair done every Thursday, playing games and cards with her friends and family, laughing, and attending her children’s and grandchildren’s special events. These celebrations she never missed! Her presence, love, and laughter brought immense joy to her family.
Her three children were the fulfillment of her life and her beloved grandchildren she said filled her world with love. They were her reason for continuing through a number of health challenges she fought with God’s grace. She felt God’s presence by her side throughout her whole life and she lived her life in God’s image. Her unparalleled strength, faith, and love will remain a legacy that will continue for generations to come.
Surviving loved ones include her daughters, Stephanie (Gregory) Hanouw of Aurora, CO, and Aleta (Donald) Batz of Braceville, IL; son, David Satterthwaite of Dexter, KY; grandsons, Eric (Katie) Satterthwaite and Adam Satterthwaite; granddaughters, Cassondra (Luke) Barbarich and Abigail (fiancé Noah Davidson) Hanouw; great-granddaughter, Sophie Satterthwaite; and sister, Bonnie (Frank) Wehrly.
She was preceded in death by her beloved mother, father, and step-mother; brother, Harold Boyer; and daughter-in-law, Trina Satterthwaite.
Visitation will be from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Wednesday, December 30, 2020, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.
The family will have a private funeral service to celebrate Carol’s life and legacy. Friends and family are welcome at the graveside service which will take place at 2:15 pm on Wednesday, December 30, 2020, at Mt. Etna Cemetery. Rev. Dr. Donald Batz and Pastor Mike Gallant and will be co-officiating.
Memorial contributions may be directed to a scholarship fund in her name for young women who exhibit the love, kindness, faith, and strength that Carol had in abundance.
