Carl E. Gross

Carl E. Gross, 78, Noblesville, passed away at 11:30 am on Thursday, February 9, 2023, in his home. He was born in Elwood, Indiana, on Friday, September 22, 1944, to Carl and Katherine (Farmer) Gross.  He was married to Nancy (Denton) Gross.  

Carl graduated from Alexandria High School in 1962 and attended Columbia College in Missouri. He served in the United States Army from 1961 to 1975, where he achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant.  During his tours, he served in Vietnam, Korea, Germany, and Hawaii, where he was honorably discharged.  Following his military service, he was a truck driver with VA Northern Indiana Health Care System, retiring in 1996. He was a member of American Legion of Noblesville Post #45.

Carl loved basketball and especially enjoyed watching Noblesville, North Carolina, and IU basketball.  He looked forward to meeting up every day of the week with his friends at Jim Dandy restaurant.  He was a storyteller, whether they be fact or fiction. No one will ever know!  He did like to travel, which a lot of his traveling came by truck driving.  He also loved his fur babies, Hannah and Bailey.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy Gross of Noblesville; daughter, Jennifer (Jim) Keith of FL; sons, Matt (Katie) Tippner of Noblesville and Todd (Molly) Tippner of Indianapolis; grandsons, Jordan Ernsberger of FL, Bradley Ernsberger of FL, and AJ Tippner of Noblesville; granddaughters, Maisy Tippner of Indianapolis and Meredith Tippner of Noblesville; sisters, Grace Savage of Alexandria, Diana (Tim) Jones of Anderson; brothers, Al (Sandy) Gross of Round Top, TX, and Kenneth (Sheliah) Gross of Frankton.

He was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Leabell Gross; and sisters; Judy Rainer, Marilyn Felton, Flora Rushin, Shirley Hopkins, and Carla Jean Schweitzer; brothers, Harold Gross, Richard Gross, Roger Gross, Jim Sanders, Everett Gross, and Carl Gross, Jr.

A graveside service to celebrate Carl’s life will begin at 10:00 am on Thursday, February 16, 2023, at Marion National Cemetery. Pastor Mick Simpkins will be officiating.
