Brian J. Sharp

Brian J. Sharp, 54, Marion, passed away at 5:50 pm on Monday, May 29, 2023. He was born in Peru, Indiana, on Saturday, August 17, 1968, to Larry and Diana (Gilbert) Sharp. On July 25, 1992, he married Janell Combs, who survives.  

Brian graduated from Peru High School and started his life of employment at Little Caesars and then managed Noble Romans, both in Peru. Brian started his career in law enforcement at the Miami County Sheriff’s Department before serving the city as a Police Officer for 22 years with the Marion Police Department, retiring on March 22, 2019. During his tenure, he served as Secretary/Treasurer and President of Fraternal Order of Police, of which he was a member. Brian was a huge part in starting Cops and Kids and providing Christmases for countless children within the community for several years. Also, during his tenure, he served as a field training officer, Jean Team detective, Crime Scene Investigator, Evidence Technician, and Detective. After retirement, he became the Safety Director for Marion Community Schools, was employed at Taylor University as an officer, and worked at Sweetser part-time as an officer.

Brian was active with his children in 4-H by raising show pigs, “Sharp Show Pigs”, even showing them at the Indiana State Fair year after year. He also enjoyed pheasant hunting with the children and teaching others. He was involved with any and every baseball organization that his children were in, from working concessions to sitting on boards. His love for Bristol was almost as great as the love for his family.  

Additional survivors include his daughters, Stephanie (Joel) Huff of Las Vegas, NV, and Sarah (Trystan) Kirkpatrick of Marion; sons, Cade Sharp of Marion and Keaton Sharp of Marion; granddaughter, Catelynn; grandson, Theodore; brother, Jim (Jill) Sharp of Peru; brother-in-law, Vince Combs of Gas City; mother-in-law, Pam Combs of Marion; nieces, Kyndra Combs of Marion, Jenna Combs of Hartford City, Kianna Sharp of Peru, and Kaylee Sharp of Peru; and aunt and uncle, Bill (Debbie) Gilbert of Peru.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents, Vern and Eva Gilbert; and sister-in-law, Kelly Combs.

The family will receive visitors from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Thursday, June 1, 2023, at Grace Community Church, 1810 E. Bradford St., Marion, IN.

On Friday, June 2, 2023, a funeral service to celebrate Brian’s life will be held at Grace Community Church at 10:00 am. Chaplain Mark Bardsley will be officiating with burial following at Grant Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grant County 4-H Council, 1403 E. St. Rd. 18, Marion, IN 46952
