Billie Jean Howell, 90, Gas City, passed away at 2:20 pm on Saturday, May 13, 2023, in her home. She was born in Marion, Indiana, on Friday, April 7, 1933, to William LaTrelle and Clellah B. (Hawkins) Mills.
Billie graduated from Mississinewa High School in 1952 and from Indiana Wesleyan University in 1991 with degrees in business administration and political science. She worked at United Technologies and Gen Corp, where she was a supervisor. She worked many years in the optometry office of Dr. Robert Hutchinson and had also sold Tupperware and Rubbermaid over the years. She was a Past Matron of the Eastern Star and past member of the Eagles, American Legion, and Moose. Billie enjoyed bowling and had bowled in leagues at Crown Lanes for several years. She was a Stephen Minister for many years, which she found to be a rewarding time in her life. Billie also enjoyed playing the organ and golfing.
Survivors include her sons, Dana (Becky) Howell of Seattle, WA, and Dean Howell of Huntington; daughter, Dawn (Roger Pence) Howell of Marion; grandson, Dean Eric (Jillian) Howell, II; granddaughter, Kellie Campbell; grandsons, Ryan McMurray, Joshua McMurray, Jason Vandemark, and Larry Pence; 16 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and friends.
Billie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wilbur Howell; son, Daniel Howell; one great-grandchild; and brothers, Richard, Larry, and Harrold Mills.
The family will receive visitors from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St., Gas City, IN.
Immediately following the time of visitation, a service to celebrate Billie’s life will begin at 1:00 pm with Rev. Ray Seilhamer officiating. Burial will take place at Grant Memorial Park.
