Betty J. Cook, 87, of Marion, passed away at 5:14 pm on Tuesday, February 7, 2023, at Lutheran Hospital of Indiana in Fort Wayne. She was born in Hester, Kentucky, on Sunday, March 31, 1935, to Buford and Daisy (Noel) Spurling. On July 22, 1957, she married Diamond R. Cook, and he preceded her in death on December 27, 2007.
Betty graduated from Muncie Central High School and was a homemaker. She enjoyed playing Bingo, as well as singing and participating in the Easter Pageant. More than anything, Betty loved her family.
Survivors include her daughters, Deborah (late Thomas) Sheren of Marion, Brenda (Jerry) Heard of MI, and Rae-Jean (Mark) Cook-Hansel of Woodlawn, TN; grandchildren, Nicole (Mike) Johnson, Joshua D. Jones of Sanford, FL, Derek Jones, Chenoah Jones, Chelsea Jones, Ashley Jones, Clint Jones, Nicoma Jones, Travis (Melinda) Spencer of Marion, James Spencer, Storm Spencer, Crystal Keller of Marion, Diamond (Christina) Hansel, and Marcus Brandon (Christian) Hansel; several great-grandchildren; brother, Edward (Marilyn) Spurling; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Diamond R. Cook; daughter, Diane Spencer; son, Rickie “Rick” Ray Cook; grandsons, Jeremy T. Strausbaugh and Chance James Spencer; and brother, Dean Spurling.
A graveside service for Betty will take place at a later date at Grant Memorial Park.
