Benhart T. Jacobsen

Benhart T. Jacobsen, 94, of Wabash, Indiana, formerly of rural Roann, Indiana, died at 10:02 pm, Sunday, August 6, 2023, at Wellbrooke of Wabash.  He was born on January 21, 1929, in Swayzee, Indiana, to Herman P. and Margaret (Bastianson) Jacobsen.

Benhart was a 1947 graduate of Gilead High School, and a US Army veteran. He first married Phyllis Easterday in Wabash on October 15, 1950; she died April 22, 1986. He then married Sylvia (Carver) Graves in Roann on June 27, 1987. Benhart was a farmer, a plumber, and was the Roann Rural Postal Carrier for 30 years, retiring in 1995. He was a member of the Wabash Church of Christ and the Laketon American Legion. Benhart enjoyed golfing, traveling, going out to eat, and loved his church. He especially loved his step family and considered them his own.

He is survived by his wife, Sylvia Jacobsen of Wabash; six step children, Tim (Chris) Graves of Wabash, Tony Graves of Plymouth, Indiana, Tena (Alan) McMullen of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Tammy Kirby of Quincy, Michigan, Trudy (Dan) Boone of Wabash, and Carrie Graves of Mesa, Arizona; 19 step grandchildren, 33 step great grandchildren, 7 step great great grandchildren; and his two sisters, Ruby Gaston and Hilda Speicher, both of Wabash.  He was also preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, John Jacobsen and Fred Jacobsen, sister, Helen Claussen, 2 step grandchildren, and 1 step great granddaughter.

Funeral services will be 10:30 am, Friday, August 11, 2023, at Wabash Church of Christ, 1904 N. Wabash Street, Wabash, with David Stokes, Interim Minister, officiating. Burial will be in Enterprise Cemetery, Roann.  Friends may call 3-7 pm Thursday, at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Avenue, Wabash, and one hour prior to the service Friday, at the church.

Preferred memorial is Wabash Church of Christ.
