Barry Garner

Barry Garner was born on April 11, 1947, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the son of Robert A. and Rose Garner. He made his transition at 2:24 am on Friday, August 6, 2021, from I.U. Medical Center, Indianapolis, with his loving family surrounding him.

Barry was educated in Philadelphia public schools and graduated ahead of his class in 1965, from Benjamin Franklin High School. He completed the academic course of study. He played varsity basketball and was the class vice president.

Upon graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served four years and was honorably discharged. He worked briefly for a trucking company in Philadelphia before accepting employment with General Motors in Marion, Indiana. There he worked production and moved to the accounting department. During this time, he received his degree in accounting from Marion College (now Indiana Wesleyan University). He then was promoted to the supervisor of shipping. After having many friends, he retired after 37 years of service.

Barry enjoyed electronics as a hobby. He refurbished televisions from the recycling center and gave them to senior citizens, clients, and friends in the community.

He loved spending time with his seven grandchildren, Megan, Joey, Levi, Deen, Nasir, Max, and Cameron. Pop Pop, as they lovingly called him, used his technology to prepare for his visits, setting up Wii and other activities for them. He often gave advice to them. It was his joy to know his legacy was going forth through him.

Preceding him in death were Mary; his parents, Robert and Rose; brothers, Bobby and his twin, Carl, Audi, Gerald, and Joe; and sister, Anitra.

Those surviving him include his wife, Rosie; brother, Carmen; children, Michael (Kamirah), Anthony, Maya (Jessica), Tia (Nathan), Latresa (Michael) Jackson, and Dorothy (Alan) Floyd; his grandchildren as mentioned above; adult grandchildren, Attney, Darius, Kaylee, and Elan; and a host of relatives and friends.

“…but little by little, we begin to remember not just that you died, but that you lived, and that your life gave us memories too beautiful to forget…”
