Barbara Curran

Barbara Curran, age 91, of Marion passed away Sunday morning November 4, 2018 at Suite Living.

Barbara was born March 3, 1927 in Indianapolis, Indiana the daughter of the late Merrill and Bernice (McCluskey) Bruning.  She attended Indiana University and while on a double date she met Robert Curran.  They were married September 1, 1948 and he preceded her in death on March 12, 2017.  After attending I.U where she was a member of the Sigma Kappa Sorority, she went to modeling school for a short time in New York City, New York.

Barbara was past president of Delphian, the Research Club, Tri Kappa, and twice received the Sagamore of The Wabash; once from Governor Orr and the second time from Governor Bayh.  She was appointed by Governor Bowen to the Indiana State Employee Appeals Commission and served for 20 years.  She also served on the Mental Health Board, the Crippled Children’s Board and the United Way, all of Grant County.  Barbara was an avid golfer and bridge player.

She is survived by a son, G. Todd Curran of Marion; a daughter, Catherine (Dr. James) Fisher of Aurora, Colorado; 7 grandchildren, Sarah Madson (Torben) of Apalachicola, Florida, Jen Sieve (Jeff) of Kansas City, Kansas, Kelly Shaffer (Troy) of Aurora, Colorado, Jaime Hanson of Muncie, Indiana, Kristin Stallings (Dr. Brett) of Bixby, Oklahoma, Tara Griffiths (Dr. Daniel) of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Kate Irwin (Ben) of Fishers, Indiana;  and 18 great-grandchildren.

Private Family Memorial Services will be held at a later date.  Arrangements entrusted to Raven-Choate Funeral Home, 1202 W. Kem Road, Marion, Indiana.

Memorial contributions may be made to Family Life Care Hospice, 705 S. Baldwin Avenue, Marion, Indiana 46953; or Cancer Services of Grant County, 305 S. Norton Avenue, Marion, Indiana 46952; or to the Hostess House, 723 W. 4th Street, Marion, Indiana 46953.
