Annabelle Burk

Annabelle, 98 was born in Richland Township on May 19, 1920 to the late Ora and Doretha Belle (Julian) Highley. She passed away on December 30, 2018 in Miller’s Merry Manor, Syracuse, Indiana.

Annabelle graduated from Sweetser high school in 1937 and is the last survivor of the Sweetser Braves cheerleaders of 1935-1937. On March 31, 1940 she married Marion L. Burk. Mr. Burk preceded her in death in October, 1997. Annabelle loved spending time at their cottage on Lake Webster. She was an avid golfer and loved to watch sports, especially the Broncos, the Colts and Payton Manning. She also liked to play euchre and canasta. She was a member of the Converse Church of Christ.

Annabelle is survived by her two sons, Bensen Burk, Converse; William L. (Gerri) Burk, Milford two grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

She is also preceded in death by brothers, Herman, Earl and Glen Highley; sisters, Zelma Whitlock and Velma Gardner.

The funeral service will be held at 12 noon on Friday, January 4, 2019 in Owen-Weilert-Duncan Funeral Home, Larrison-Martin Chapel, 308 East Marion Street, Converse with John Clark officiating. The family will receive visitors from 11am until service in the funeral home. Burial will immediately follow in Converse Cemetery, Converse, Indiana.
