Angeline “Jean” Marie Politano

Angeline “Jean” Marie Politano, nee Mastellino, went to be with the Lord Jesus on Tuesday, November 7, 2023 at the age of 84 years old. Jean was residing with her husband, Guido Politano, in North Manchester, Indiana where she passed away peacefully.

Jean was born on September 12, 1939 to Vincenzo and Lucia (Rivetti) Mastellino in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania to a growing family that already had five children. Jean became a whiz with numbers while helping her father in his little grocery store. Guido met Jean at Aliquippa High School but it was several years before he convinced her to marry him on September 2, 1961. They settled into a tiny apartment in Youngstown, Ohio while Guido finished college. Jean and Guido quickly started their own family as the first 3 children were born in close succession. Jean helped support the family with creative frugality. She helped Guido in his schooling by typing up his papers and listening to him explain complicated engineering concepts. Guido found promising employment in Anderson, Indiana where they moved in 1965. Ten years later in 1975, they moved to their forever home in Middletown, Indiana. It was a picturesque rolling 5 acres with a babbling brook in the back.

Jean excelled at being a homemaker, a wife and a mother. Guido and Jean had 5 children together. When the youngest child was mostly grown, Jean got a job in the kitchen at Valley Grove Elementary school where she worked for several years before going on to work in the kitchen at Highland High School. Jean was extremely proficient in the kitchen which she always kept neat and tidy. Her husband and children were blessed with delicious home cooked meals every day. Her spaghetti and meatballs with garlic bread are legendary. She also loved to cook for and feed anyone who came to visit.

Jean loved to shop for her family. She kept extra pantry items she thought her grandchildren would enjoy. After a family get-together, she would encourage the grandchildren to get a plastic grocery bag and raid the pantry for sugar cereals, cookies, potato chips or anything else that looked yummy. Everyone knew about the generous stash of candy bars kept in the especially high cabinet in the upstairs kitchen. Jean’s children were blessed with abundant food supplies at every visit.

Linda Neal faithfully and lovingly helped the family care for Jean for the past 6 years. In April 2020, Guido and Jean sold their house and moved in with their oldest son, Domenic, to be closer to family. After 62 years of marriage, Guido says that he thinks it’s going to work out. What started in 1961 has grown to include 19 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. God has abundantly blessed the Politano clan!

Jean is survived by her husband, Guido Politano of North Manchester, Indiana; five children, Domenic (Sondra) Politano of North Manchester, Indiana, Lucille (Rob) Ziegler of Greenwood, Indiana, Carmin Politano, Angelica (Paul) Frommeyer of Batesville, Indiana, and Vincent (Joanna) Politano of Westville, Indiana; 19 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and four sisters, Mary Taormina, Fannie (Jim) Showrank, Lucy Coladonato, and Janet Anderson, all of Aliquippa, Pennsylvania.  She was preceded in death by her parents, and three brothers, Tony Mastellino, Patsy Mastellino, and Lou Mastellino.
