Alice L. Skeens

Alice L. Skeens, 92, of Marion, died Sunday, January 20, 2019 at Colonial Oaks Health Care.

Alice was born on April 27, 1926 in Fairmount, Indiana, daughter of the late John E. and Eva Ellen (Hughes) Listenfelt. She married Elijah Richard “Dick” Skeens on December 27, 1943. They were married 68 years before his death in 2011. Alice worked several jobs through the years at Chrystal Laundry, Foster Forbes, and the Tomato Factory but, her main priority was being a mother and homemaker raising their 10 children. Alice enjoyed crocheting, knitting and sewing as well as playing the piano, organ and accordion. Alice attended Westview Wesleyan and Upland Church of the Nazarene.

Alice is survived by three sons; Sam (Vic) Skeens, Fairmount, Elijah Skeens, Marion, Art Skeens, Marion; five daughters; Sue Reeder, Jonesboro, Peggy (Rob) Wamsley, Gas City, Sally (Rick) Thomason, Loretta (Jim Allen) Hossain, and Theatta (Jim) Dobbs, all of Marion; daughter-in-law, Phyllis Skeens, Marion, 14 Grandchildren; Ed Skeens, Phyllis (John) Kaufman, Sammy Skeens, Chad Thomason, Aaron Reeder, Christina (Ted) Clevenger, Kirk (Staci) Thomason, Robby Wamsley, Zach Skeens, Jamie (Melissa) Dobbs, John Skeens, and Isiah Skeens; 20 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren; two sisters; Susan  Billbe, Jonesboro, and Theatta (Carl) Culbertson, Marion.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sons; Johnny Lee and Timmy Lee Skeens; grandchildren; Jason Reeder and Timmy Skeens; son-in-law, Darrell Reader, siblings; Garnett Beals, Budd Listenfelt, Mary Miller, and an infant sister Martha.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Fairmount Chapel of Armes-Hunt Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 415 S. Main Street, Fairmount, Indiana where visitation will be held on Friday, January 25, 2019 from 1-3 PM with the funeral service at 3 PM with Rev. Ryan Budde. Interment will follow at Jefferson Cemetery in Upland.
