Alice E. Copher

Alice E. Copher, 85, went to be with the Lord in her Marion home at 11:42 p.m. on Sunday, July 1, 2018.  Born in Marion on September 23, 1932, to the late Theodore and Mary (Stebbins) Githens, Alice was a lifelong resident of Grant County.

Alice was a graduate of Marion High School.  She married Witten H. Copher on August 27, 1960, and they shared 38 years together before he passed away on October 22, 1998.  Prior to working at Essex Wire, where she was an accounting clerk, Alice was employed at General Tire.

Alice was known for how much she enjoyed canning, quilting, and crocheting.  Numerous afghans she had made were given to others, and she had also made caps for kids through the church she attended at First Friends.

She was regularly involved with her children and grandchildren, and especially supported her son, Clark, as a driver in dirt racing.  She was the family caretaker for many years, and Clark became the caretaker when she couldn’t.

She is survived by her daughter, Alice (Todd) Stires, Indianapolis; son, Clark Copher, Marion; grandchildren, Ashley (Jake) Powell, Indianapolis, and Travis Stires; and brother, Allen (Macqueline) Githens.

Her daughter, Helen Copher, also preceded her in death.

The family will receive visitors from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 5, 2018, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.

Services to celebrate Alice’s life will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 6, 2018, at the funeral home with Pastor Jeff Nagell officiating.  Burial will follow at Estates of Serenity.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Alzheimer’s Association, 50 E. 91st St., Ste. 100, Indianapolis, IN 46209-4830 or to IMPD Mounted Patrol, 1060 N. Capitol Ave., Ste. C200, Indianapolis, IN 46204.
