Alberta D. Banks

Alberta D. Banks, age 73 of Marion passed away on Monday, September 20, 2021 at Colonial Oaks Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Marion.

Alberta was born on May 23, 1948 in Hamilton, Ohio the daughter of the late Henry and Gladys (Wooten) Downey.  She married Elmer Banks on May 29, 1965, and he preceded her in death on September 24, 2005.

Alberta worked as a manager of GNC and Frontier Fruit & Nut Store, and also worked at the VA Hospital and for several churches.  She was a member and secretary/treasurer of Lighthouse Assembly of God Church and she and her husband helped to start a church in Owingsville, Kentucky.  She was a past board member, music director and youth director at both of her churches.   Alberta was also a volunteer at Marion General Hospital and served as the assistant to the Chaplain.  Alberta never had any children of her own but always wanted them.  She had several though who she considered hers through youth services.

She is survived by sisters, Sherri Coan of Marion and Jennifer Smull of Gas City; brother-in-law, Rev. James Crouch of Owingsville, Kentucky; many nieces and nephews including,  Amy Crouch (Chris), Jama Coan, Channel Wyatt (Dave) and Clint Smull (Nina); also several great nieces and great nephews.

Alberta was also preceded in death by sisters, Sue Crouch and Brenda Gail Downey; brother-in-law, Daniel Parsons; a niece, Trisha Crouch White; and a nephew, James Crouch.

Visitation will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 23, 2021 at Raven-Choate Funeral Home, 1202 W. Kem Road, Marion, Indiana.  Funeral Services will begin at 1:00 p.m. with her nephew, Clint Smull officiating.

Burial will follow funeral services at Jefferson Cemetery, Upland, Indiana.
