Ralph M. Wimmer, 89, Gas City, passed away in his home at 3 a.m. on Sunday, September 30, 2018.  A lifelong resident of Grant County, Ralph was born on July 4, 1929, to the late Fred M. and Evelyn R. (Love) Wimmer.  On July 1, 1950, he married his loving wife, Garnet E. Starr, and she survives.

Ralph retired from Owens-Illinois in 1983 after 31 years of service.  He was an avid fisherman, and he and Garnet spent sixteen winters in Florida where he could fish endlessly.  Ralph was an avid Cubs fan as well, and he enjoyed watching college football.  More than anything, he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Garnet; children, Terry (Cyndi) Wimmer, Tucson, Arizona, Gary Wimmer, Gas City, and Mindy Himelick, Gas City; grandchildren, Heather (James) Reilly, Amanda (Jon) Campion, Joshua Wimmer, Gary (Heather) Wimmer, Erika (Scott) Wooldridge, Jordan (Brandy) Wimmer, Dara (Chanse) Young, and Morgan (Jordon) Massey; 16 great-grandchildren with one on the way; 5 great-great-grandchildren; brother, John (Marguerite) Wimmer, Jonesboro; and sisters-in-law, Beulah Wimmer and Carol Wimmer.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert, Franklin, and William Wimmer.

The family will receive visitors from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, October 2, 2018, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St., Gas City, IN.

Services to celebrate Ralph’s life will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, October 3, 2018, at the funeral home with Pastor Mick Simpkins officiating.  Burial will follow at Grant Memorial Park.
