Wilma Maxine “Mickie” Hilgeman, 88, of Peru, passed away at 11:30 A.M., Monday, January 2, 2017 at her residence. She was born in Peru on February 5, 1928, the daughter of John and Ethel Mooney Hiers, and she was raised by the Sam Spradling family. Mickie married Harold Hilgeman on April 5, 1947, in Lodi, OH and he preceded her in death on September 1, 2012. Mickie was a 1947 graduate of Lodi High School and a member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church. She was Queen Mother of the Friends for Life Chapter of the Red Hat Society, and a former member of the Town and Country Home Demonstration Club. Mickie was employed as a Nursing Assistant at Dukes Memorial Hospital for 22 years before retiring in 1990. She and her husband, Harold, owned and operated Hilgeman’s Camp Ground on the Eel River from 1996 to 2003. She is survived by daughters Lynda Brower and her husband Jed of Lafayette, IN, Margaret Harding of Kokomo, IN, Ruthanne Abbott of Peru, IN and Marceil Barragan of Peru, IN, eight grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. A service celebrating the life of Wilma Maxine Hilgeman will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, January 6, 2017 at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home, 84 West Main St, Peru with Pastor Kenneth Greenwald officiating. Burial will be in the St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery. Family and friends will gather from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M., Thursday at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be made through the funeral Home to the St. John’s Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Society.
