Stanley Lee “Pete” Smith, age 80, of Roanoke, passed away Thursday December 28, 2017 in his home. He graduated from Jackson Township High School and attended Purdue University. He served in the US Marines. He was a construction executive with Martin, Inc for 20 years and retired from Jim Ingledue Construction. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Roanoke, Marine Corps League and Roanoke American Legion Post #160.
Pete was born April 27, 1937, in Roanoke, the son of John and Nancy (Augspurger) Smith. On March 9, 1959 he married his beloved wife of 58 years Carolyn Garstka in Allen County. She survives in Huntington. Also surviving are 4 sons Timothy Smith of Woodburn, Anthony (Mary Ann) Smith of Columbia, South Carolina, Michael (Vickie) Smith of Lafayette, and Andrew (Jennifer) Smith of Gulfport, Mississippi, a daughter Beth (Max) Melchi of McCordsville, 9 grandchildren Jacob (Christina) Smith, Suzanne (Matthew) Postell, Brandon Smith, Samantha Smith, Colin Smith, Sydney Smith, Matthew Melchi, Marissa Melchi, and Mallory Melchi, a sister Sharon (Steve) Williams of Roanoke. and a brother Steve (Jorja) Smith of Fort Wayne,
Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 2 from 10 am to 12:00 pm at St. Joseph Catholic Church preceding the 12:00 pm funeral mass. Father Dale Bauman will officiate. Roanoke American Legion Post #160 will provide military honors.
