Stanley L Murphy, 83, of rural Peru, Indiana, died at 11:56 am, Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at Dukes Memorial Hospital in Peru. He was born February 28, 1933 in Chili, Indiana to Charles Hershel and Madeline (Hively) Murphy.

Stan was a 1951 graduate of Chili High School and attended Ivy Tech. He married Reta (Grandstaff) Ungar on September 22, 1984. Stan was a US Navy veteran, a member of the Navy Memorial in Washington D.C., and the Admiral Nimitz Memorial in Fredericksburg, Texas. He worked as a truck driver for Chrysler in Kokomo, retiring in 1996 after 31 years. He was a member of the Mexico Baptist Church, American Legion, and Hanna Masonic Lodge. Stan enjoyed collecting and working on antique tractors; was a member of Pioneer Power of North Central Indiana, Tri State Gas Engine Tractor Association, and the National Rifle Association. He lived in Greentown, Indiana for 30 years and the rest of his life in Miami County.

He is survived by his wife, Reta Murphy of Peru; three sons, Brian (Kathleen) Murphy-Doud of Kalamazoo, Michigan, Patrick (Margaret) Murphy-Doud of Saint Joseph, Michigan, and Derrick (Linda) Murphy-Doud of Houston, Texas; three step-children, Denese (Chris) Smith of Geneva, Illinois, Mark Ungar of Noblesville, Indiana, and Robert Ungar of Medford, Oregon; seven grandchildren, six step-grandchildren; sister, Sandra (Bob) Walker of Zephyrhills, Florida, and two brothers, Robert (Tonie) Murphy of Mission Viejo, California, and Joe (Earlene) Murphy of Pittsboro, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his parents and one stepson Karl Ungar.

Graveside services and burial will be 2:00 pm Monday, February 6, 2017, at Chili Cemetery, Chili, Indiana. Arrangements by Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, Roann, Indiana.

Preferred memorial is American Diabetes Association.
