Ruth E. Garshwiler, 91, of Fort Wayne and formerly of Bippus, passed away Sunday, February 7, 2016 at 6:50 am at Saint Anne Home.  She graduated from Huntington Catholic High School in 1943 and from St. Margarets Hospital in 1947 with a degree in nursing.  She worked at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Fort Wayne and Huntington County Hospital.  She then happily and fiercely devoted the next 30 years of her life to her family and children. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Huntington, and a member of American Legion Post #7 Auxiliary.  She enjoyed spending time with her family, playing cards, bingo, and golf.  She also enjoyed dancing, music and fishing.

 

Ruth was born January 20, 1925, in Huntington, the daughter of Charles E. and Goldie M. (Braden) Bartrom.  On July 7, 1951 she married her beloved husband of 61 years Bill A. Garshwiler in Huntington, who passed away May 23, 2013.  She is survived by 2 daughters Linda (Thomas) Scribner of Shallotte, NC, and Julie Garshwiler of Huntertown, a son Tadd (Jean) Garshwiler of Huntertown, 4 grandchildren Paul (Emily) Scribner of Jacksonville, NC, Jenny (Jesse) Moore of Fort Wayne, Patrick (Jessamine) Scribner of Liberty Township, OH, Scott Garshwiler of Fort Wayne, 8 great-grandchildren and a brother Mark Bartrom of South Whitley. She was preceded in death by 7 brothers Francis, John, Donald, Robert, Charles, Gene and David Bartrom and 5 sisters Joan Keyser, Lucile Millner, Mabel Cone, Marie Casper, and Rosellen Hatch.

 

A celebration of life gathering will be held Saturday February 13 from 9:30- 11:30 am at Deal- Rice Funeral Home- Huntington Chapel preceding the 12:00 noon Memorial Mass at St Mary Catholic Church, Huntington, with Father Stephen Colchin officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

 

Preferred memorials are to Heartland Hospice, Alzheimer’s Association, or masses c/o Deal-Rice Funeral Home, 338 E. Washington St., Huntington, IN 46750
