Ray Ahnert, 97, of Peru passed away on August 28, 2016 at his residence at 343 Boulevard, Peru, Indiana.

Ray was born in Peru on December 26, 1918 to Max Emil inert and Susie Faye Helm Ahnert. On October 5 1940 he married Eileen Mowery.

Ray was a member of the greatest generation, serving his country in World War II, where he was awarded the bronze star and served in General Patton’s third army in the Battle of the Bulge. Ray was a tool and die maker, and retired from Rockwell Standard in Logansport, and then went to work for Cutler/Ace Hardware, where he worked untill the age of 88. He was a faithful and active member of the First Baptist Church in Peru for over 50 years. He was a man of great faith.

He is survived by his son Dan Ahnert, Peru; his daughter Janet (Ralph) Stitt, Indianapolis; granddaughter Amy Newhouse, Indianapolis; brother Leonard Ahnert, Peru; and sister Iva Herrell, Peru.  He was preceded in death by his wife Eileen, his parents, brothers George, Lewis, and Lawrence, and sister Harriet.

Friends may call from 4:00-7:00 on Thursday, September 1, 2016 at the Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home, 105 West Third Street, Peru. Funeral services will held at the First Baptist Church on Friday, September 2, 2016 at 10:00 AM, with Pastor Bob Adelsberger officiating.  Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery, with military service provided by the Miami County Military Rites Team.
