Ora J. Norris, 85, Marion, died at 1:55 p.m. on Tuesday, July 12, 2016, at Wesleyan Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born in Cadiz, Kentucky, to the late Frank and Alma (Mayes) Noel. She married John T. Norris on December 25, 1955, and he preceded her in death on May 25, 1992.
Ora worked for Marion Community Schools as a Teacher’s Aide and for the school’s food service. She also worked at Modern Laundry. Ora was a member of Allen Temple AME Church, where she served as a Choir Director and member of the Stewardess Board and Missionary Board. She enjoyed playing piano by ear, and loved gospel music. Ora’s hobbies included sewing and bowling, and she loved spending time with her family, especially watching her grandchildren play sports.
Survivors include her children, Garrett (Sue) Norris, Mesa, Arizona, Jeff (late Carolyn) Norris, Indianapolis, Sylvia (Kelvin Baltimore) Norris-Dorsey, Indianapolis, and Gail (Eric) Randle, Marion; grandchildren, Nicole (Damian) Hardy, Noelle Norris, Jane Norris, Devin (Ameria Wagner) Randle, and Darrian Randle; great-grandchildren, Janelle, London, and Ca’Mya; sister, Emma Noel; several nieces, nephews, and friends; and her dog, Ginger.
In addition to her loving husband, John, and parents, Ora was preceded in death by her grandson, Jason, and eight siblings.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, July 19, 2016, at Allen Temple AME Church, 3440 S. Washington St., Marion, IN. Funeral services will begin at 1 p.m. with Rev. Shonda Gladden officiating. Burial will follow at Grant Memorial Park.
