Nellie Jean (Truitt) Ramer

Nellie Jean (Truitt) Ramer, 88, went to be with her Lord and Savior on July 24, 2017 at Blair Ridge Health Campus Center. Nellie was born on July 18, 1929 in Miami County, Indiana, and she was the second child of Walter Earl Truitt and Bessie May (Stitt Coiner) Truitt. In 1947, she graduated from Butler Township High School and worked for Bob Truitt’s Shoe Store on Broadway in Peru until she married.

Nellie married Harold E. Ramer on June 20, 1948 at St. Paul Evangelical United Brethren Church. They enjoyed 68 blessed years together. Harold preceded her in death on August 24, 2016.

Nellie took care of the family responsibilities while Harold was working on the railroad. While raising five children, she also enjoyed her Women’s Ministry at Parkview United Methodist Church. Some of the activities at the church include: planning chicken and noodle suppers, bazaars, fish fry’s and mincemeat making. Every Sunday after church, Mom always cooked a wonderful meal for all of us; this was a wonderful time for family and fellowship.

Fondest memories of family vacations included camping at various campgrounds and yearly trips to Branson, Missouri.

Nellie is survived by four children: Thomas (Beverly) Ramer, Galveston, IN; Linda (Ron) Woodruff, Akron, IN; Teresa Church, Fort Wayne, IN; and Michael (Angie) Ramer, Peru, IN. Also, seven grandchildren: Tamara Ramer, Cincinnati, OH; Matt Rager, Chicago, IL; Andre Rager, Mentone, IN; Beth (Tony) Rawe, Cincinnati, OH; Michael (Joanna) Ramer, Peru, IN; Jennifer (Jared) Schortgen, Fort Wayne, IN; and Katlain Ramer, Kokomo, IN, as well as eight great-grandchildren, Sidney Ramer, Sean Ramer, Heath Schortgen, Laci Rager, Thaddeus Schortgen, Nolan Rawe, Isabella Ramer and Kaia Rager. She is also survived by a sister Katie Merrix, and a nephew Terry (Debbie) Merrix.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Harold Ramer, a brother Joe Truitt, sister- in- law Belva Truitt, and son Eric Alan Ramer.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. – 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 29, 2017 at Parkview United Methodist Church 1785 State Road 19, Peru, IN 46970. The funeral will be immediately following visitation at the church, with Pastors Bob Clark and Catherine Koziatek officiating. Burial will follow at the Ever Rest Memorial Park, Cass County IN.  Memorials may be made in Nellie’s name to Parkview United Methodist Church. The family would also like to extend a special “Thank You” to the staff at Blair Ridge Health Center in Peru, for the special care that was given to Nellie.
