Michael L. “Mike” Garretson, age 61, of Roanoke and formerly of Huntington, passed away Monday, November 13, 2017. He worked at Friction Materials (H.K Porter) for 24 years and then at Wayne Metals. He was a Harley enthusiast and watched drag racing. He loved his family and enjoyed taking his children and grandchildren camping and hiking.
Mike was born May 24, 1956, in Huntington, the son of Clarence Roger and Billie Jean (Carter) Garretson. On July 4, 1989 he married Rhonda Harker in Jamestown, Tennessee, and she survives in Huntington. Also surviving are 5 children Rachel (Kurt) Bender of Melbourne, FL, Tera Garretson of Roanoke, Sarah (Lucas) Martin Shake of Auburn, Richard (Lavon) Martin of Middletown, and Jennifer (Tommy Mayo) Martin Smith, 15 grandchildren Miranda Garretson-Mayo, Lauren Bender, Michael Bender, Aiden Roughley, Katelynn Caley, Emmeleigh Shake, Liam Shake, Shiann Smith, Lelia Martin, McKenzie Martin, Braeden Mayo, Journey Mayo, Jaiden Mayo, Chase Mayo, Corey Mayo, a sister Raven Collins of Huntington, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Jerry Garretson.
Visitation will be held Saturday, November 18 from 1-3 pm at Deal-Rice Funeral Home- Huntington Chapel.
