Marjorie Knight Gard, 102, died Sunday morning at the home of her daughter in Bluffton IN with family by her side. She was born October 31, 1914 in Jefferson Township, Huntington County to Charles Luther and Daisie Farr Knight. She graduated from Jefferson Township School in 1932. On November 4, 1934 she married J. Arthur Gard, Sr.; he preceded her in death in February 2012.

She was a lifelong homemaker in Lancaster and Wayne Townships, Huntington County. Marjorie was employed by Wabash Magnetics for 22 years and was a meter reader for the Huntington County REMC for many years.

She enjoyed her family, IU basketball, Huntington County 4-H Fair, gardening, tending her flowers, baking and cooking, bird watching from her kitchen window, and playing euchre. She was a lifelong member of Warren United Church of Christ where she taught Sunday school, was active in the Sisters In Faith Women’s group, and the JOY Sunday School class. She was a charter member of the Lancaster Township Better Living Homemakers Club, also a member of the Town and County Home Economics Club as well as the Samuel Huntington Chapter 4075IN DAR. She loved to volunteer and help others, serving many organizations and charities over the years.

Marjorie is survived by 4 daughters and 2 sons: Sandra (Gary) Wegenke of DeWitt MI; Dianne (Jim) Surfus-Burk of Bluffton; Jane (Edward) Polzin of Angola; James A. (Sydney) Gard, Jr. of Edmond OK; Charles (Cathy) Gard of Huntington; Cathy (Patrick) Pearson of Bluffton; daughter-in-law Cindy Gard of Kokomo. She is also survived and loved by 15 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death, in addition to her husband, Arthur, by her son Richard Gard; brothers Dale Knight, Don Knight, Clifford Knight, Karl Knight, and Mark Knight; her sisters Irene Arndt and Mildred Knight; and a great grandson Dustin Makowski.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 8, 2016 from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, Indiana.

Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m on Friday, December 9, 2016 at the Warren United Church of Christ, 202 East Second Street, Warren, Indiana with Pastor Scott Nedberg officiating. There will also be visitation from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Church on Friday.

Interment will be at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Warren.

Memorials may be made to Warren United Church of Christ or to Huntington County 4-H Fair Association both in care of Myers Funeral Home, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, IN 46750.
