Ishmel “Ish” Thornsbury 75 of Huntington passed away at 1:45 am on Thursday, February 2, 2017 at Visiting Nurse and Hospice in Fort Wayne. Ish was a 1960 graduate of Wheelwright High School in Kentucky. He retired from DANA Corporation after over 30 years of service. In retirement, he worked for Economy Auto Parts. His passions in life were golf, and his family, especially his wife and his grandson John Michael. In his younger years he enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing softball.

Ish was born on October 26, 1941 in Melvin, Kentucky, the son of Boyd and Stella (Newsome) Thornsbury.

He was united in marriage to Leavelle “Lea” Newsome on June 4, 1965 in Huntington. His wife survives.

Additional survivors include a son: Michael (Jackie) Thornsbury of Warsaw; a daughter: Tina (Jeremy) Alexander of Fort Wayne; two brothers: Denny Thornsbury of Warren; Gordon Thornsbury of Kentucky; three sisters: Rosalee Isaac of Kentucky; Barbara Bailey of Fort Wayne; Sandra Maloney of Fort Wayne; three grandchildren: John Michael Polcsak of Fort Wayne; Keegan Beam of Warsaw; Kira Beam of Warsaw; a great grandson: Linkin Gonzalez of Warsaw and numerous family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister: Betty Darty and two brothers: Bennie Thornsbury and Carlos Thornsbury.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 5, 2017 from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, Indiana.

Funeral service will be held on Monday, February 6, 2017 at 2:00 pm at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel with Pastor Stuart Mutzfeld.

Interment will be at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Huntington.

Memorial donations can be made out to Tina Alexander, for Ish’s grandson John Michael who has Down Syndrome for his future life and job skill training in care of Myers Funeral Home, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, IN 46750.
