Helen L. Wintrode, 100 of Huntington passed away at 12:45 am on Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at Miller’s Merry Manor. Helen was a 1934 graduate of Huntington High School. She had worked as a cashier at Frank’s Grocery in Andrews for 25 years and was known as “The Candy Lady” to almost all the children in Andrews. She was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church and was also an honorary member of the Bethel United Methodist Church. Helen loved IU Basketball, playing cards, reading, traveling and spending time with her family.

Helen was born on May 17, 1916 in Huntington, the daughter of Fred and Frieda (Jahnke) Fahrnow.

She was united in marriage to John Wintrode on October 14, 1939 in Huntington. He preceded her in death in February of 1980.

Survivors include two daughters: Stephanie Smith of Huntington; Diane (Mike) Crowe of Willis, TX; a son: Jeff (Loretta) Wintrode of Huntington and five grandchildren: Nathan Minton, Justin Crowe, Brandon Crowe, Jacob Wintrode, Joshua Wintrode and thirteen great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers: Wilbur and Fred Fahrnow, two sisters: Hilda Bridge, Lydia Stahl and a granddaughter: Andrea Diane Minton.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 2, 2016 from 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, Indiana.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 2, 2016 at 5:00 pm following visitation at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel.

Interment will be at the Riverside Cemetery in Andrews.

Memorial donations can be made out to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church or Bethel United Methodist Church both in care of Myers Funeral Home, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, IN 46750.
